Tips and Troubleshooting
If the arrow isn't firing far, then...

Make sure there is a 1-2" piece of glue stick taped to the tip.

Make sure to pinch the back of the straw, and keep your hands clear of the rubber band; don't pull back using the rubber band.

When releasing the arrow, simply let go of it. Don't try to push it forward.
If the bow is breaking, then...

The bow might not be angled enough. If the bow is too straight, then the reinforcements can't form sturdy triangles.

Add more reinforcements.
